SUMMARY:NO MORE EMPTY PROMISES: A free workshop with activists
DESCRIPTION:Covid is a walk in the park compared to what is coming unless the Government acts immediately.\nThis is an emergency! \nJust as the US Civil Rights Freedom Riders brought about dramatic change\, we can too. No more dithering\, green-washing and lies. \nIn this workshop with Roger Hallam – activist\, organic farmer and researcher – we’ll explore the radical steps we need to take in the next few months to force the Government to decarbonise Britain. \nYou and I have to stand up today for everyone’s future. \nJust come – it’s important!!

SUMMARY:Sustainable Frome June Meeting: Universal Basic Income
DESCRIPTION:We will have a Universal Basic Income Conversation. \nThis is a thing that’s happening country wide.\nUBI is a brilliant idea but is not well understood generally. The idea is to get people talking about it\, spreading and exchanging knowledge and to start a groundswell of support and enthusiasm! \nYou can find out more about UBI here \nBut in a nutshell: \n\nIt would replace all unemployment benefits\, but not housing benefit.\nEvery citizen would get it\, regularly and unconditionally.\nIt gets rid of poverty traps and means work always pays.\nIt’s very simple\, cheap to administer\, and can be revenue neutral.\nIt tends to encourage flexible work and sustainable living.\nPilot schemes have not led to people giving up work\, except to take up education or start small businesses.

SUMMARY:3rd-20th March: Bounce Forward - What Next? Summit
DESCRIPTION:The What Next Summit is a 3 week online event exploring how we can build community power to respond to the major challenges of our times. \nIt will build community power across the UK by bringing together hundreds of community activists already making change happen\, so together we can have a bigger impact. It will be a space to empower us to create our own future\, tap into our imagination\, make new connections and share knowledge to build a stronger movement. \nHosted by Transition Network and CTRLShift the summit will run from 3rd-20th of March\, to enable people to dip in and out as they wish and to make space for learning\, reflection\, the building of relationships and concrete pathways of action. \nThe sessions are a mixture of  live presentations and workshops. All the talks and seminars will be hosted mainly on zoom and the debriefs and discussions after the seminars will be held on the Losing Control Community platform. \nThe summit is completely free to attend. \nSign up and more info here\nhttps://transition-bounceforward.org/what-next-summit/\n\nEach week will have a different focus\, following the flow of What Is? What If? What Next? \nWhat Is?\n3rd March: The summit begins with an evening webinar highlighting a blizzard of stories from community led movements from around the world.\n4th – 7th March: We have 13 workshops/presentations throughout the day and evening focusing on a range of different themes – you can drop into the ones you find the most interesting to you. \nWhat If?\n10th – 12th March: We have 3 evening webinars exploring a different element of imagination from the personal to the community to the whole of society. We have some great speakers in these sessions that will feed and inspire your own imagination.\n13th March: 2030 day\, this is a whole day session (you need to be there from the start) exploring what 2030 would look like if we were able to shift to a more positive future.\n16th – 18th March: Open Space sessions\, this is a space for summit participants to propose sessions on topics they would like to discuss\, so keep an eye on the NUDJ calendar closer to the time to see what emerges\, of course you could also propose a session.\n \nWhat Next?\n19th March: Connecting the threads is an evening session exploring how everything we are doing in the community links to larger scale change and what that means for our communities.\n20th March: What Next organising for change is a day session of workshops and we are leaving the afternoon free at the moment so we can respond to what emerges from the conversation\, but have no doubt it will be interesting. \nhttps://transition-bounceforward.org/what-next-summit/

SUMMARY:Sustainable Frome February Meeting: Wellbeing that is Sustainable
DESCRIPTION:There is so much information out there about what you need to do to stay well\, what you should eat\, how much you should exercise\, and so on.  But how about if we stopped listening to all those external instructions that confuse and bewilder us\, and in any case\, are probably not right for us as individuals\, and took a moment to ask our body itself what it actually needs?  Our mind and our body are often at odds.  The mind is more social\, wanting us to feel we fit in and are the same as those around us.  The body\, on the other hand\, is only concerned with itself and its needs\, and is a better reference point if we want to know what we really need at each moment. \n\nIn this short session on Wellbeing Terésa Hadland\, a local bodywork and movement therapist who is also a member of Wellbeing Frome\, will talk about the untapped intelligence of the body and lead you through a short exercise.  Be prepared for some surprises!

SUMMARY:Sustainable Frome January meeting: A Small Farm Future
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: Watch Chris’s talk and the Q&A here \nChris Smaje\, from Vallis Veg just outside Frome\, will talk about his new book ‘A Small Farm Future’ \nThe book draws on a vast range of sources from across a multitude of disciplines\, and analyses the complex forces that make societal change inevitable. Chris explains how low-carbon\, locally self-reliant\, agrarian communities can empower us to successfully confront these changes head on. Finally the book explores the pathways for delivering this vision politically. \nhttps://smallfarmfuture.org.uk/ \n\n	\n \n	Online meetings\nWhile we're unable to meet in person we're holding our meetings online\, using Zoom. \nThe Zoom link for each meeting will be sent out by email a few days beforehand\, so join our mailing list to be sure of receiving this. (If you're too late to sign up for this month\, please email us for the link.) \nWe sometimes record the talk and Q&A section of the meeting\, for the benefit of those who weren't able to attend. To protect your privacy we will give you the chance to switch off your camera before starting the recording\, and you can add questions to the chat if you don't wish to speak.

SUMMARY:Frome Hoedown
DESCRIPTION:The Frome Hoedown will be back on the streets over the weekend of 31st Oct / 1st November. \nInspired by Mendip District Council’s manual weed management trials\, the aim is to tackle weed control without the use of glyphosate – a weed killer linked to cancer and toxic to birds and insects – while at the same time getting together with your neighbours. Read more about September’s Hoedown in the Frome Times. \nSo if you would like to get together with your neighbours\, in a socially distanced manner\, and hoe the streets then do join the FB group https://www.facebook.com/groups/912144769310853 to link up with people in your area. \n If you are not on FB then send an email to shane@gn.apc.org.
