SUMMARY:Sustainable Frome January meeting: A Small Farm Future
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: Watch Chris’s talk and the Q&A here \nChris Smaje\, from Vallis Veg just outside Frome\, will talk about his new book ‘A Small Farm Future’ \nThe book draws on a vast range of sources from across a multitude of disciplines\, and analyses the complex forces that make societal change inevitable. Chris explains how low-carbon\, locally self-reliant\, agrarian communities can empower us to successfully confront these changes head on. Finally the book explores the pathways for delivering this vision politically. \nhttps://smallfarmfuture.org.uk/ \n\n	\n \n	Online meetings\nWhile we're unable to meet in person we're holding our meetings online\, using Zoom. \nThe Zoom link for each meeting will be sent out by email a few days beforehand\, so join our mailing list to be sure of receiving this. (If you're too late to sign up for this month\, please email us for the link.) \nWe sometimes record the talk and Q&A section of the meeting\, for the benefit of those who weren't able to attend. To protect your privacy we will give you the chance to switch off your camera before starting the recording\, and you can add questions to the chat if you don't wish to speak.

SUMMARY:Frome Hoedown
DESCRIPTION:The Frome Hoedown will be back on the streets over the weekend of 31st Oct / 1st November. \nInspired by Mendip District Council’s manual weed management trials\, the aim is to tackle weed control without the use of glyphosate – a weed killer linked to cancer and toxic to birds and insects – while at the same time getting together with your neighbours. Read more about September’s Hoedown in the Frome Times. \nSo if you would like to get together with your neighbours\, in a socially distanced manner\, and hoe the streets then do join the FB group https://www.facebook.com/groups/912144769310853 to link up with people in your area. \n If you are not on FB then send an email to shane@gn.apc.org.

SUMMARY:Sustainable Frome June meeting ONLINE: Climate and Food Security and what it means for Frome
DESCRIPTION:Update: You can read Elise’s report Growing Through Climate Change here: \nhttps://futurescanning.org/food-security/ \nHow does the Climate Emergency affect the South West and what are the implications for food production and supply in Frome? Led by Elise Wach\, a research advisor focusing on food systems\, and a founding member of Frome Field 2 Fork. \n\nFrome Field 2 Fork is creating a sustainable and replicable solution to empower our community in Frome and surrounding areas to connect\, learn\, grow and cook. Their work will be focused on a welcoming & inclusive space with meaningful volunteering\, education\, growing\, art & cooking workshops\, work experience & job opportunities\, in walking distance from Frome town centre. This will include a community & care farm\, a plant nursery\, and a community kitchen. \nIf production practices and supply chains do not change\, then climate change is likely to threaten food security in England. However\, there is enormous scope for producers of all scales to adjust what they produce and how they manage water\, soil and biodiversity. \nSimilarly\, action by concerned citizens can help to support producers with these transitions and also strengthen the sustainability\, fairness and resilience of their food systems. \n\n\n\nThe session will take place online\, using Zoom\, link to be mailed out in the newsletter. (NB. Please ensure you have and up to date version of Zoom before the meeting starts to avoid last-minute delays. Or join a couple of minutes early if you want to check your setup.) \n\n\n
