OpenStoryTellers: Lockdown Postcards and Thalis for Tales
Sustainable Frome and Lungi Babas are delighted to be supporting OpenStorytellers with raising funds for their new outreach work. The fundraiser will be running up until March 2021 and all money raised will go towards specialist outreach support for people with learning disabilities and autism who have become particularly isolated as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
People with learning disabilities have been disproportionately affected by the virus, with many clinically vulnerable to it and more likely to suffer worse outcomes as a result. The outreach support will help people who are not able to get out and about to stay connected, become digitally included and to increase their wellbeing.
OpenStoryTellers, Lungi Babas and Sustainable Frome are inviting the people of Frome to take part in two ongoing projects: Thalis for Tales and Lockdown Postcards:
Thalis for Tales
Lungi Babas are kindly donating money from every 6th thali sold at their café (that’s 17% of their thali revenue!), as well as a host of other fundraising activities. Read more about it on their website. JJ’s Doubles who are at Loop De Loop on Saturdays are also generously donating sales from every 6th double to OpenStoryTellers.
Lockdown Postcards
Members of OpenStoryTellers have been creating postcards that reflect their experience of the lockdowns and the pandemic this year. They would love to hear your stories too!
How to take part:
- Pick up a free postcard from PostScript or use your own
- Think about a story, a feeling, a top tip or something you’d like to share from your experience of the pandemic and draw or write it on the postcard – be as creative as you like!
- Drop off or send your postcard to one of the following venues:
OpenStoryTellers (@RISE Frome), Lungi Babas, PostScript, the Good Heart Café or the Share Shop
and snap a photo to Facebook, tagging @OpenStoryTellers
To help raise funds, there is a suggested donation of £1 (or more!) to OpenStoryTellers when you drop off your postcard. There will be a collection pot at each venue, or you can donate online at: https://localgiving.org/charity/openstorytellersfrome/
Come and see your postcard in an exhibition at the Thalis for Tales celebration event in March – details nearer the time!
